Postponing the most important decision

In the rush of our daily lives, we put so much effort into making our dreams a reality; but if we stop to think about it, they won’t really matter on the day we pass away. Even though we are entitled to a blessed life, nothing is more important than making sure our souls are in the hands of God.

In the Bible, we see that every blessing has requirements – the same goes for the salvation of our soul. In order to receive a new life, we must give up our old lives. We must surrender our body, soul and spirit, and live according to God’s principles and will, so that He may give us a new life here on earth as well as save our soul. If we surrender an old life that has only brought us shame and discontent, He promises to give us life in abundance as well as eternity by His side. It seems like an irresistible offer. So why do many people still find it hard to accept it?

There are three main reasons why people struggle to surrender their lives to Jesus:

1 – They forget that God is able to do more, and knows more than they do.
They want to be self-sufficient and live by their own standards but end up running to God whenever they are confronted with an impossible problem. When they receive the answer they were looking for, they forget Him and go on trying to be self-sufficient.

2 – They don’t understand the law of sacrifice.
Many people want to be successful but they don’t want to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Salvation has a price and it takes work to pay that price. But God promises to bless the work of our hands and when we work towards being saved, we bear fruit.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” (John 12:24)

3 – They think that they have time to do things later.
It is difficult for them to accept the fact that they have no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow. They postpone their surrender to God today, believing they will be able to surrender to Him in the future. They fail to grasp the fact that second chances are for the living; once you’re dead (which could happen in the blink of an eye), it is all over.

That is why we mustn’t gamble with our souls. We don’t know the day of our deaths but we can choose where we are going to live for all eternity. If the opportunity is being presented today, then we must take it. By placing our life in God’s hands, we are being obedient to Him and in turn He places us under His shelter.

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13)

God doesn’t want us to perish, nor does He send people to hell. In fact, He doesn’t want anyone to end up there. If He did, He wouldn’t have exposed its existence and the means to avoid going there. He taught us about salvation and how to achieve it. If you haven’t surrendered your life yet, make the right choice now and work towards eternal life.

Surrender yourself to God today; don’t postpone it.
