UCKG Food Bank Launches in Croydon

A new food bank opened for the first time on Saturday 7 November at the UCKG HelpCentre on London Road, Croydon, and handed out 106 bags of provisions to 47 people. The recipients were predominantly homeless or unable to cook because of unsatisfactory accommodation or disability/ill health.

Rajiva Nurse the UCKG’s community outreach representative in Croydon said: “There was a lot of excitement as we had been looking to do this for a long time”. No fewer than 22 of the volunteers who were involved in setting up and launching the food bank turned up on opening day, as they wanted to be sure everything was in place, although they will not all be needed in future weeks.

The food that was handed out included individual donations from members of The church along with a donation from Greggs; and people were particularly keen To receive readymade dishes and other food that did not need cooking.

The food that was passed out included individual gifts from individuals from the congregation alongside a gift from Greggs; and individuals were especially sharp to get readymade dishes and other food that didn’t require cooking.

Rajiva clarified that they had the option to help individuals who had as of late been ousted or were living in brief convenience where it is hard to cook. A portion of the beneficiaries communicated shock that a congregation was giving this useful assistance, while others expressed that they would be back for an additional one week from now. Individuals talked honestly about their lodging needs and family circumstances and were considerate of others and aware of what they took.

The food bank will be open from 11am until 1pm each Saturday starting now and into the foreseeable future. The coordinators will be satisfied to get gifts to add to what the HelpCentre individuals give. Any individual who might want to contribute is approached to email co.cro@uckg.com.
