Patient Care Group Diabetes awareness event

On Saturday 25th August 2018, the Patient Care Group held its ‘Diabetes Awareness Day’ at the UCKG HelpCentre’s Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park. Similar events were also held in Edmonton, Stamford Hill, Peckham, and Plaistow.

The Patient Care Group, the organisers of the event, is made up of dedicated volunteers who are willing to give their time to visiting and supporting the sick and infirm through hospitals and home visits.

One of the main objectives of this event was to raise awareness of Diabetes and to advise people on how to prevent this killer disease that affects around 4 million people in the UK alone.

Topics covered by guest speaker Amado Becerra, a Health and Wellbeing Coach from the Independent Clinical Services, covered points on what is Diabetes, the different types of Diabetes, symptoms, complications, risk factors, and prevention management.

The almost 50 attendees ranging from 25-75 years of age, as well as different nationalities, found the event informative and educational. A Q&A session also took place during which the audience had an opportunity to have their questions answered.

All in all, the event was successful in reaching its aim of informing and educating the local community in further depth about Diabetes. The day saw a number of people walk away more knowledgeable than they had first arrived.
