Youths: Are they all a menace to society?

According to recent news published by the Guardian, TikTok prankster Bacari, who is better known as Mizzy, was jailed for 18 weeks. He was sentenced after breaching a court order prohibiting him from sharing content of members of the public without their consent.

A video which had been posted on X, showed him in the Westfield Shopping Centre, mocking the British Judicial System, saying, “The UK law is a joke.”

When sentencing him, Judge Matthew Bone said, “put bluntly, your pranks are not funny” and “your actions caused innocent members of the public significant harm and distress”.

This story adds to a long list of negative examples where teenagers’ senseless behaviour becomes a nuisance and causes disturbance to their local communities.

However, when they decide to be positive, young people are able to make a real positive impact.

The Bible speaks about this in 1 John:

“(…) I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides I you, and you have overcome the wicked one.” (1 John 2:14 NKJV)

That’s why the Universal Church invests in the spiritual development of young people through the weekly Victory Youth Group (VYG) meetings. The VYG is a youth network that welcomes people from all walks of life and guides them toward a happier future.

At these meetings, youths between the ages of 14-25 invest in their inner being, so that they can perform their best in their studies, career and even in their relationships.

In recent weeks, the VYG held an event called, “POV” (Point of View) with the aim of changing the mind of youths who have a negative outlook on life or lack vision for their future.

This event took place in the local Universal Churches and received more than 1000 youths nationwide in their respective branches.

The event featured a live drama performance, as well as other song, dance or spoken word performances. This was followed by real life stories from youths who have experienced the benefit of the VYG meetings and who can testify that their lives have been transformed.

Finally, the meeting ended with a thought-provoking message, to challenge the youths to make better choices and above all prioritise having a relationship with God, as this is the only way to experience true peace.

Many who attended the church for the first time on this day expressed that the event was remarkable and they look forward to revisiting the church for future VYG meetings and events.

If you would like to know more about the work of the youth group, you can visit the VYG social media platforms or alternatively you can speak with your Pastor at your nearest Universal Church.
