The Universal Church Plaistow showcases its Community Outreach projects to the local community!

In Plaistow this past weekend, we held one of our now well-known Liberty events, showcasing what our Community Outreach team does and what the other groups in our church do.

From 11am until 1pm, people could walk into our Plaistow branch to see how each group provides guidance and caters to specific age groups.

The event spread across the premises of the branch, outside we had the foodbank and Night Angels, who were there providing food and basic hygiene products respectively. We had the Rescue of Dignity & Beat Depression teams. We also set up a prayer station for guests that they could approach freely.

There was a corner with face painting and a supervised play area with activities for children and performances from Plaistow’s UTF and VYG.

Our health and lifestyle section was run by the Patient Care group, providing healthy drinks and conducting blood pressure checks for those who wanted them.

One of the volunteers on the day, Sabrina Fisher, said “The event for me was amazing! You could see the care and thought that went into the planning of the event, I was helping mostly with the elderly women who attended, it was an opportunity for them to speak to other people their age whilst enjoying a cup of tea”.

One of our notable guests was a Met Police Officer, who said: “I just wanted to say thanks for having us at the event last Saturday. It was a great event and we really enjoyed it. Looking forward to future event invitations”.

Jeffery N, who is part of Community Outreach in Plaistow, highlighted that seeing the local community interact with the groups of the church was nice to see. “Sometimes opportunities like this aren’t always available so when it happens it’s so positive,” he added.

All in all, the feedback from our more than 200 guests was overwhelmingly positive, we always aim to make these events appealing, to make sure that everyone who comes, leaves feeling like they can benefit from at least one of our groups.

Keep an eye out to see when a Liberty event will be held in your community!
