The Truth Behind Telling a Small Lie

How do you feel when you find out that you have been lied to?

Initially, you are likely to feel upset, offended or angry, which can lead you to lash out and even go as far as ending the relationship.

After the initial shock, you eventually move on with your life but may still carry the disappointment or resentment towards the person who lied to you.

But what if it’s only a small, white lie?

Perhaps you say that your reaction would be different and that a “tiny” lie is permissible.

To us, our reaction may be measured by the supposed “size” of the lie, however, to God, there is neither small, big, white or black lie. There is only the truth and the lie.

The Bible makes it clear that God doesn’t approve of dishonesty, and He teaches us to always seek to live in truth:

“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.” (Proverbs 12:22 NKJV)

Maybe you have become accustomed to telling a small lie to escape trouble or to advance in life, so reading this may contradict your will. However, the Holy Spirit provides strength to all those who sincerely desire to abandon their wrongful behaviour and to walk in accordance with the Word of God.

This week, we commenced the 21 Days Fast of Daniel purpose for all those who would like to do exactly this, invest more time in the things of God. It’s not a fast from food, but from all secular media and information, in order to spend more time in His presence.

Whether you are new to the church or have been a member for many years, you are invited to join us as we embark on this 3-week journey to draw closer to God. Simply remove all the distractions and replace them with what edifies your faith.
