The Sunday to tear down the altar of Baal

What can impede a person from truly having a relationship with God?

In past times God would always forewarn the people of Israel to not make idols for themselves since God wants to be worshipped in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Today is no different, people still make idols for themselves, leading them to take their focus from the One that can actually help them.

For a person’s life to change, God requires 100% of you without doing so HIs work in a person’s life will be limited. It’s your all for God’s all.

Reflecting on the story of Gideon, for him to achieve success over the enemies, an altar that was set up by his father had to be broken down to give space for what God wanted to do:

“That same night the Lord said to him, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.” (Judges 6:25)

Do you want to surrender your all to God so that you can receive from Him the fullness of life – the Holy Spirit? Over these next few days, we invite you to carefully observe your life and see if there is an “altar of Baal”. This can be represented through anything that extracts your time and focus from God; an idol, bad company, negative habits, good luck charms, etc.

This Sunday, we invite you to boldly knock down this altar by bringing to the church what represents this “altar of Baal” and thereby decide to only depend upon the God of the Bible.

He is calling all of us to make a clear defined decision to put Him at the centre of all that we do.

If you can identify with this and want to make a decision led by your faith in God, then this Sunday at 10am we invite you not to only knock down this altar but to build a new one through water Baptism.

The water baptism will empower you to start afresh and kick-start your communion with God. Essentially, a relationship with God starts in the church and is extended outside of it. Therefore, breaking down the altar of Baal is pivotal.
