Liberty Event in Catford

At the Universal Church, the members and volunteers in our community groups are always looking for a way to give back to their local community.

The Bible encourages charitable works and often speaks about the importance of giving to those who are in need:

“But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16 NKJV)

On Saturday, 7 October, the Universal Church in Catford held their very first Liberty Local Event, hosted by the various community groups. They received more than 250 people, many of which were attending the church for the first time.

The purpose of the event was to not only provide an enjoyable time for the attendees and to meet their physical needs, but to also promote the spiritual support available on a daily basis.

There were a variety of services offered to the locals on that day, including pampering for the seniors, blood pressure checks, free clothing, fresh fruit salad as well as food parcels from the weekly food bank.

The Victory Youth Group (VYG) entertained the crowd with lively songs and dance performances. The youths promoted the work of the VYG by speaking about their weekly meetings and sharing their experiences of how attending them has helped.

Both the members of the community and volunteers had a great time, including the local police officers who attended the event.

A volunteer expressed, “The Liberty Event was absolutely fantastic. We were able to feed hundreds of people from the public as well as pamper the ladies with a free service of nails, which included a hand and foot massage!”

All in all, the event was a great success and the members of the Universal Church in Catford look forward to their next opportunity to give back to their community.
