Can Artificial Intelligence fill the role of a romantic partner?

AI LT

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a mere part of a script for a science fiction film. The use of technology is quickly advancing and the expectation is that this will cause profound changes in society.

Artificial intelligence has been used to try and meet the needs of humanity, such as forming relationships. However, what started off as dating applications that suggest people with profiles compatible to yours, has now evolved.

Today there are those who are seeking for a relationship with a robot and although this seems absurd, this type of relationship has been recurrent.

American influencer Caryn Marjorie, for example, used thousands of hours of personal videos to feed a platform’s database to create a robot with her personality available for relationships.

The service is a kind of chat, in which the artificial intelligence with the personality of Caryn responds to messages sent by the user. According to Caryn, the platform was designed to “cure the loneliness of fans”.

About a month after the launch, the virtual version of the influencer won more than 20,000 boyfriends, 99% of whom are men, who pay about US$ 1, per minute of conversation.

Another case that drew attention recently was that of Rosanna Ramos, 36, who created a digital partner based on her own preferences. She invested US$ 300 in the development of the artificial intelligence program. The relationship became so serious that she says she married the robot.

“I’ve never been so in love with someone in my entire life,” she said and, in an interview with a local newspaper, justified her passion with the fact that her new spouse “does not judge her”, “did not come with any baggage” and does not make her “deal with his family, children or friends”.

In a world that lacks empathy and perspective, technology presents itself as a supposedly safe alternative, since there is the possibility of constant and uninterrupted contact.

However, science shows that a computer will not be able to meet the needs of a human being. Intimate social connections, more specifically that of a romantic partner has been proven to be a fundamental human need, both to well-being and survival.
