A 62-year-old man falls victim to a romance scam.

62 year old man

A recent case revealed that a 62-year-old man travelled to Brazil to finally meet his virtual girlfriend.

However, upon arrival on Wednesday, 3 April, his alleged girlfriend did not show up and even blocked him on all her social media networks. Without money to return to his country, he received shelter from a police officer who demonstrated sympathy towards him.

This scam illustrates how one can develop intense feelings and emotions, all of which can cloud one’s judgment, this highlights the need for all to take care of our emotional well-being. Therefore, you must take care of your emotional life.

Unfortunately, as long as vulnerability exists so will these scams, not just Internet scams but scams of all types.

Numerous people are in a relationship with a scam artist, one who promises marriage but has no intention of doing so, simply leading the person on by creating excuses.

If you don’t want to fall into an emotional trap, it is important to invest in intelligent love. Here are some tips from the Love School to you, to help you decide whether or not you are in a ‘relationship scam’.

Be suspicious if the suitor:

  • Shows an excessive amount of interest in your finances.
  • Asks personal questions about you but doesn’t tell you much about themselves.
  • Often requests financial support, taking advantage of the emotional attachment they have built with you.
  • Makes short-term marriage promises.
  • Promises to send valuable gifts and asks you to pay clearance fees.

To protect yourself, do not hesitate to take these actions:

  • Ask for the suitor’s full name.
  • Ask them to send a photo in a specific situation just to know if the person is real.
  • Never send money.
  • Make video calls just to see the person’s face.
  • Demand a face-to-face meeting.
  • If you discover that you have been a victim of a scam, ask family and friends for help.
  • Don’t hesitate to contact the police.

Finally, for ultimate protection, invest in intelligent love by participating in the Love Therapy lectures, which take place every Thursday at 8pm at the Cathedral of Miracles in Finsbury Park.

Bring your Bible and if you are in a relationship, invite your partner to attend with you, so you can learn together.

We will see you there.
