We spoke to some of the Universal Church’s Soup Kitchen volunteers and asked them about their experiences of helping out. They spoke highly of their involvement and acknowledged the importance of making a positive impact in the lives of those less fortunate.

Nanji Seldap spoke of how much happiness it brings her to lend a helping hand. “Helping in the soup kitchen for me is a joy, especially when working with the homeless. It allows me to understand people’s needs, and lets me make a difference by helping others.”

 The Universal Church is here to lessen the burden and to provide comfort and nourishment to those who may need it the most. With Soup Kitchen branches all over the country, we are trying to reach as many people as we can.

Vera Silva told us of the ways the Soup Kitchen gives back to her as a volunteer. “For me, volunteering in the Soup Kitchen isn’t only about giving food to people but it’s beyond that. It’s about allowing them to feel comfortable, peaceful and happy. It’s giving them a smile and showing them that they’re not alone. This is why I’m thankful for the Soup Kitchen, because it gives much more to the community than they’re expecting. I always leave thinking, ‘today I helped someone who could have been struggling’ – this is the Soup Kitchen giving back to me.”

The Universal Church’s first Soup Kitchen was launched in May 2017. The Soup Kitchens run on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm and provide light meals and grocery essentials to anyone in need. They not only welcome homeless people but also those living in temporary accommodation, on low incomes and those who feel lonely.
