Shutting the Door on Evil: How to Protect Your Salvation

Shutting Door

In our walk of faith, there’s something fundamental we must conquer – and even after achieving it, we must strive daily to preserve it: our salvation.

Although we should pursue our goals in this life, such as relationships and financial achievements, the value of our soul’s salvation cannot be compared to any of these things, as it is an eternal treasure.

Knowing this, evil works to prevent us from securing this priceless blessing. That’s why it’s crucial to remain vigilant and fight back. The apostle Paul wisely instructed us not to give place to the devil (see Ephesians 4:27).

Giving place to the devil means opening doors for evil to act in our lives. This can occur through negative thoughts that, if not rebuked, can lead to sin. These thoughts may be subtle, such as, “You’re too tired today; it’s okay to skip praying or reading the Bible,” or “You’ve prayed about this so many times – maybe God just isn’t listening.” If we don’t rebuke these thoughts immediately, we may entertain them and allow them to take root in our minds.

When we are not watchful, evil can quietly invade our minds and gradually gain control until it ultimately takes over. This infiltration does not happen only through thoughts but also through feelings. Therefore, a Christian must be balanced and act with reason rather than emotions.

When our hearts (our emotions) lead us toward hatred, resentment or desires for revenge, reason must prevail. We must not succumb to these harmful feelings – after all, the Holy Spirit grants us self-control to overcome such impulses.

This article is not intended to frighten you but to alert you. With a solid relationship with God, there is nothing to fear. Evil cannot enter the life of someone who has the protection of the Most High and His presence dwelling within them. This is why you should invest in your relationship with Him.

Ask yourself if anything is separating you from God or drawing you away from Him. If so, take steps to close that gap and ask for His forgiveness. Remember that His eyes are upon you – not eyes of accusation, but eyes of mercy that strengthen you. As it is written in 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”

Having a heart loyal to God means following His will and practising His Word. By doing so, you will receive the strength needed to resist all evil attacks. As we read in James 4:7: “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
