Plaistow VYG helps clean-up Jeyes Estate Green

Plaistow VYG’s ‘We Care Youth Engagement” day for 2019 was to improve the Jeyes Estate Green, a small communal garden surrounded by flats. The area was selected because of its neglect, therefore causing a build-up of litter which has affected local residents.

Local residents usually want the area to be cleaner but find it hard to initiate the change.

The VYG were therefore on hand to change the look of the communal gardens.

Ayomide Akinyemi, a VYG volunteer from Plaistow said, “I found the We Care volunteering a great opportunity for the VYG to make a difference. I believe it showed to the people of our community that there are still young people who do care about their community.”

Afiya Rahman, ended by saying, “the young people were full of positivity and a real credit to the hard work your team has invested in them.”

Reggie Nelson, also a member summed it up with this statement saying, “…the community event was really humbling. At first, I was a little hesitant but I really enjoyed it. My highlight was when a random lady came to me on the street shocked at what I was doing and said we need more people like you. I then understood that the community event was bigger than myself but for us to show the community that there are still young people out there that are positive role models.”
