Feast of the First Fruits

faithfulness to God, recognition of God, the power given by God,

Feast of the First Fruits

We need always to remember that without God we cannot do anything. He is the One who enables us to achieve great results. When we constantly remind ourselves of this, we are able to place Him first in our lives. But what does that actually mean? What must we do to show Him that He is important to us?

Through prayer we can speak to God and tell Him many wonderful things, but words are empty when they are not backed up by proof that what we say is true. That is why there is a need for action when it comes to faith, to demonstrate our love and gratitude and recognition of God. Remember: faith without works is dead (James 2:14–26).

Only our actions can reveal who we truly are and whether our faith is as strong as we say it is. The simplest way of demonstrating our faithfulness to God and our recognition of His power over us is by tithing.

‘And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.’ (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Every time we tithe, we are remembering that God is the One who provides the skills, health and all the qualities we need to earn our daily bread. One misconception is that God gives us wealth; in reality, the verse above indicates that God gives us power to obtain wealth. This power comes when we constantly remind ourselves through action (tithing) that He is the One who provides the means. When we are faithful to Him in our tithes, we have power to chase our goals and dreams.

Our faith in God and the actions that prove it allow us to have faith in ourselves as well. God creates the conditions for us to face challenges that would otherwise frighten us into staying where we are. This is why on Sunday 4 October we will be consecrating tithers* with Holy Oil, so that God may fulfil His word and give them power to achieve greatness. We will also begin to speak about the five main enemies that we face in life and how to overcome them, continuing to explain more throughout the month of October. By combining knowledge of who our enemies are with the power given by God to gain wealth, we can expect great things to happen this month.

*Tithers are people who understand God’s sovereignty over them and acknowledge that everything God gives them comes from His hands in the first place. This is why they return to Him one tenth of their earnings in obedience to His word. If you are not yet a tither or you want to know more about tithing, speak to a pastor at any of our addresses or call our helpline on 020 7686 6000.
