The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
Love without understanding can quickly lead to frustration. To truly connect with someone, it’s essential to see things from their perspective. Understanding doesn’t necessarily mean agreement; rather, it means valuing the other person’s viewpoint – even when it differs from your own.
For couples, understanding involves pausing before reacting, asking why instead of making assumptions, and creating a safe space where both individuals can express themselves without fear of judgment. Many conflicts that can threaten a relationship arise from a lack of effort to understand each other’s needs, fears and dreams.
For singles, taking the time to really understand the other person – what motivates them, what they value and what challenges they face – is crucial not only to develop a deeper connection but also to avoid future disappointments and wasted time.
