As you may know, the Love Walk is coming up on Saturday, 30 August, and we want you to make the most of this experience. So, to help you prepare for the event, we’re launching the Alphabet of Intelligent Love – a daily series of reflections focused on key words that represent key qualities for building lasting, intelligent love.
Let’s begin with A: Attention.
This is a crucial element for a successful love life – after all, who wants to be in a relationship where there’s no attention? Attention conveys the message, “I see you, I’m here, and you matter.”
But this isn’t merely about being physically present – it’s also about being mentally and emotionally engaged. You can sit across from someone at dinner but still be lost in your thoughts. On the other hand, when you truly listen, observe and respond with care, you’re building something much deeper than fleeting chemistry – you’re nurturing connection.
For couples, attention is the everyday ingredient that prevents love from becoming distant. It can be found in simple things, such as asking how your partner’s day was, noticing something new about them, or putting your phone down during a conversation. These small acts of love tell your partner, “You’re not just part of my routine; you’re important to me.”
Singles, too, can and should practice this. When getting to know someone, your ability to pay attention reveals more than charm ever could. It shows maturity and indicates that you are serious about understanding who this person is, and not just chasing a feeling.
Attention may seem like a small thing nowadays, but for those who wish to embrace intelligent love, it’s foundational. When you choose to notice, listen and engage with intention, you’re not just loving with your heart – you’re loving with your mind.
Think about this! And we look forward to seeing you tomorrow for the letter B.
