Psalm 23 is a well-known passage in the Bible โ some may even know it by heart. Itโs often read in quiet moments or in times of trouble. But, have you ever considered how it could relate to your financial life?
It begins with the words:
โThe Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.โ (Psalm 23:1)
Letโs pause there. What a statement! โI shall not want.โ It doesnโt mean that youโll have all your financial wishes granted, but it does mean youโll never go without what you truly need. When God is our Shepherd, when we allow Him to guide us, provide for us, and take first place in our lives โ then He promises to take care of us and that includes our finances.
Too often, we put our trust in our jobs, skills, abilities, the economy, or even our intelligence to make ends meet. But those things may not always work in our favour. What happens if we lose our job, have our hours cut, or see the bills piling up? Psalm 23 reminds us that if we walk with God and trust Him daily, we can live without fear of lackingโnot because life is always smooth, but because the Shepherd never leaves His sheep hungry or lost.
โHe makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters.โ (Psalm 23:2)
Green pastures and still waters symbolise abundance and rest. Sometimes, the financial storms of life can cause us to panic, but God can lead us to a place of peace. When money is tight, our minds can become overwhelmed, but there is comfort in knowing that, no matter what happens, He is still in control.
โHe restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His nameโs sake.โ (Psalm 23:3)
Godโs guidance leads to wise decisions, including how we manage our money. When we let Him direct our steps, we are more likely to avoid the pitfall of debt, greed, or poor decisions.
โYea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with meโฆโ (Psalm 23:4)
Itโs no secret that tough financial times come to all of us. But when we seek His help, God never lets us face these struggles alone. Through every financial valley, He stays by our side, guiding us every step of the way.
โYou prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.โ (Psalm 23:5)
Even when we face opposition, whether from people or circumstances, Godโs blessings can still pour into our lives and not just a little, but overflowing. Nothing can stop the good things He wants to do for us.
