It’s a question many people ask: “I believe in God, I read the Bible, I pray often, I even go to church…So why don’t I see God’s promises coming true in my life?”
It’s a fair question – but the truth is, we often look in the wrong place for the answer.
Think about it this way: when we buy something new and it doesn’t work properly, what do we do? We grab the instruction manual and if that doesn’t help, we go back to the shop for a refund. Yet, most of the time, the fault isn’t with the manufacturer at all – it’s with us, the user, who hasn’t followed the instructions correctly.
It’s the same with the Word of God. His promises are true. They never fail. So, if something isn’t happening, the issue isn’t with God.
Take the moment when Jesus came to be baptised. John the Baptist couldn’t understand it — Jesus was without sin, so why would He need baptism? But Jesus replied, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness.” (Matthew 3:15).
In that moment, Jesus showed us something powerful – that God is faithful in everything He does, and that obedience to Him opens the way for His promises to be fulfilled. As Jesus came up from the water, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him.
Jesus set the pattern for us: believe, repent, be baptised, and begin a new life. Baptism is about total surrender. When it’s done with a sincere heart, God gives His Spirit to guide and strengthen us.
But if someone goes into the water without that sincerity, they simply go in a sinner and come out a wet sinner. The change isn’t automatic. It requires genuine faith and commitment.
The Word of God never fails— but people often do. Half-hearted effort brings half-hearted results. But when we give ourselves completely – in faith, in obedience, in sincerity – then God’s promises will surely come to pass.
So, if you’re wondering why things don’t seem to add up in your spiritual life, stop and think: is the problem really with God, or with me? After all, the manufacturer isn’t faulty — it’s the user who needs to learn how to follow the instructions.
