Peace is something we all long for, yet many of us struggle to find it. You might appear calm on the outside, but on the inside feel unsettled and restless. Why then, is peace so difficult to hold on to and more importantly, what can we do to truly experience it? Let’s explore this together.
The absence of peace usually comes down to two main factors: what’s happening around us, and what’s happening within us.
When the problem is external, it often has a practical solution. Perhaps you have an ongoing issue at work that keeps you awake at night, or you’re dealing with a toothache that is impossible to ignore. In these cases, the answer is to confront the problem directly: speak to your manager, book that appointment—take a practical step.
But what about when the struggle is internal? Grief, guilt, deep sadness—these are not so easily resolved. Maybe you’ve suffered a loss and feel an emptiness no one else can see. Perhaps your conscience troubles you over a past mistake. Outwardly you may look composed, yet inwardly you’re grappling with thoughts that refuse to let you rest.
Whatever is standing in the way of your peace, the Word of God offers more than temporary relief—it provides a lasting answer.
The Word of God promises something extraordinary: “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble.” (Psalm 119:165)
This peace is not dependant on anything around you going smoothly. When we love God’s Word and live in obedience to it, we enjoy a deep, lasting peace that life’s ups and downs cannot shake. But without that inner peace, something always feels missing, no matter how perfect life may look on the outside.
This week, across all Universal Churches in the UK, we are holding The Week of Peace. So, what steps can you take to begin walking in this peace?
Peace is not meant to be temporary. When we align ourselves with God’s Word and His ways, peace becomes a daily reality—something no external problem or internal struggle can take away.
So today, ask yourself: what is stealing my peace? Is it an external issue I need to face, or an internal struggle I need to lay before God? Either way, the invitation remains the same: this Sunday, you are invited to a Universal Church near you to draw near to God and step into the great peace He has promised.
