What’s Making You Cry?

Life in Colour 5th Oct
In the Bible, tears were a regular part of Hannah’s life. Year after year, she went to the house of the Lord carrying a heavy heart. She longed for a child, but she was barren. The sadness weighed so heavily on her that she wept and refused to eat.

Her husband, Elkanah, tried to console her: “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” (1 Samuel 1:8)

He meant well, but his faith was the “religious” kind—he offered comfort with words but couldn’t change her situation.

However, Hannah’s hope was not in her husband, her circumstances, or anyone else. She went to the tabernacle in Shiloh and prayed, pouring out her heart, and made a vow.

“O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” (1 Samuel 1:9-11)

This is the kind of faith that pleases God. It’s personal, direct, and she had fully surrendered.  Hannah’s belief didn’t rely on anyone else—it was her and God. She didn’t wait to “feel” a miracle; her countenance changed before her prayer was answered. She believed, and that belief transformed her.

Perhaps your life feels colourless, drained by emotional pain or long-standing struggles. But like Hannah, you can take your faith and step into something new. Faith coupled with action can transform your life.

Do you believe your story can go from black and white to full colour?
