What Does It Mean to Live the Lord’s Prayer?

Armour of Kingdom of God
Every Wednesday, across Universal Churches throughout the UK, we gather to explore important biblical teachings that help strengthen our faith and deepen our daily walk with God. Last week, we continued our series, ‘The Armour of the Kingdom of God,’ focusing on the spiritual protection taught by the Lord Jesus through the Lord’s Prayer and how its teachings can be applied in our everyday lives.

During the message, it was explained that although we begin our prayers with “Our Father” as the Lord Jesus taught, we have the freedom to express what comes from within us. Prayer should not become a memorised routine or empty repetition; it must come from a sincere heart.

Another important lesson highlighted the words: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

When we receive the Holy Spirit, we no longer live according to our own desires, instead, we seek to fulfil God’s will. The Spirit of God does not reside within a person to become a ‘genie in a lamp’, granting our wishes, nor is He given so that we can tell others that we have Him. The Holy Spirit comes to reign in our lives.

And where does a king sit? On a throne. Within our hearts, symbolically, there is a throne. The throne is the place of the one who governs. God will only occupy that place if we willingly offer it to Him. When we do, we begin to carry out His will, just as it is done in Heaven.

As God takes His rightful place on the throne of our hearts, our priorities begin to change. Instead of pursuing our own desires, we seek to follow His guidance and live according to His purpose.

In a world that increasingly encourages people to follow only their own desires and opinions, submission to God can seem unpopular. This is why reading and studying the Word of God is so important. Through the Bible, we learn God’s will and receive the direction needed to align our lives with His plans, enabling us to remain spiritually armed.
