We Protect What We Value… But Are We Protecting Our Families?

Protecting Family

Most of us take sensible steps to protect the things that matter to us.

We lock our front doors, and many of us go a step further by installing alarms or security cameras to help keep our homes safe. We insure our cars and other valuables against unexpected events, use passwords to protect our personal information, and back up important files to avoid losing precious memories—the list goes on.

These precautions are part of everyday life and help reduce risks. Yet, how often do we stop to think about protecting what is arguably the most precious gift we have after our salvation: our family?

Unlike material possessions, our loved ones are irreplaceable. However, the pressures families face today are greater than ever. Financial worries, emotional struggles, unhealthy influences, misunderstandings and the demands of modern life can slowly weaken family relationships. Often, these challenges develop gradually, almost unnoticed, until they begin to affect the peace, unity, and wellbeing of the home.

There is another form of protection that should never be overlooked: spiritual protection.

The Bible teaches that our struggles are not only physical but also spiritual (see Ephesians 6:12). While we naturally protect the things we can see, it is even more important to seek God’s protection against the unseen battles that can affect our families.

The good news is that through prayer, we can place those we love straight into God’s hands.

Perhaps someone in your family is going through a difficult time, and it pains you to see them struggle. But have you intentionally prayed for them recently? Have you entrusted your marriage, your children, your parents, or other loved ones to God?

While we cannot control everything that happens in life, we can choose to seek the One who is able to protect, guide, and strengthen those who matter most.

This Friday, 17 July, could be the perfect opportunity to do just that.
