We often speak about wanting the best — the best relationship, the best partner, the best future. But what we sometimes forget is that, in order to receive the best, we must first be the best. So, if there’s one thing you can do each day to bless your love life, it’s this: become the best in all that you do — not for others, but for God. This was the key lesson learnt during last week’s Love Therapy, led by Bishop James and Helena Marques at the Cathedral of Miracles.
If we want to build a strong love life, we must first build a strong spiritual life. That’s where it all begins.
Think about it: how we pray, how we serve, how we live — it all reflects what’s going on within. Prayer, in particular, is like a spiritual thermometer, it reveals the condition of our faith.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on Daniel from the Bible. He was a captive in Babylon, surrounded by foreign customs. Yet, what stood out about him was not his background, his appearance, or his words — it was his spirit of excellence.
Even in a place where no one shared his beliefs, Daniel stayed close to God. He prayed consistently and lived with integrity even when no one was watching. It was that inner excellence that made even a king who didn’t serve God notice something different about him.
It’s the same with us. When we do our best for God, that inner excellence will shine through in every area including our love lives.
Research shows that married couples often live longer. Do you know why? Because they take care of each other and give their best. They’re not just in it to receive — they give, they support, nurture, and sacrifice for each other.
So, whether you’re single, dating, or married, strive to be the best at giving in your relationship. Don’t just think about what you want from a relationship — think about what you are bringing to it.
The more you give not out of pressure, but out of love, the more your relationship will flourish.
If you’re single, do not focus on trying to be noticed. Focus on serving God well, and when you do that consistently, you will begin to see your love life transform because a person who has an excellent spirit will always be drawn to someone who has the same quality.
