Known for his unwavering belief and obedience to God, Abraham is one of the most prominent Biblical heroes of faith. His life story serves as a powerful example for anyone who wishes to follow and please the Lord. Through his actions, we learn the true meaning of fully trusting in God’s promises, even when faced with uncertainty. His character, choices and relationship with the Most High offer valuable lessons that are still relevant today.
Here are 6 important characteristics of Abraham that should serve as inspiration for us:
Abraham’s calling is described in Genesis 12:1, when the Most High said: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” What is most striking about this Bible verse is that Abraham obeyed without knowing where he was going. God didn’t provide details about His plan; He simply told Abraham to go. This teaches us that true faith requires total obedience, even when we lack guarantees.
Throughout Abraham’s journey, he never sought to glorify himself but instead honoured the name of the Father. Those who have true communion with God don’t live for fame, but for purpose. Our focus should be on honouring God, and in turn, He will certainly honour us.
Abraham was called not only to be a blessed man, but to be the blessing itself. We should not be satisfied with just specific blessings, such as financial achievements, but instead, we should seek the presence of God, because when we have His presence within us, we are blessed in all aspects – physically and spiritually – and we are able to bless others through our testimony and service to Him.
Even when faced with significant challenges and problems, those who possess the faith of Abraham don’t give up. They understand that, while circumstances may be difficult, God is always with them. Abraham’s faith doesn’t ignore reality; instead, it confronts difficulties with confidence in the Almighty. Abraham knew that if the battle was real, the victory would be real as well.
Those who have the faith of Abraham are bold and courageous. When circumstances aren’t as they should be, they bring their concerns to God, presenting their situations and requesting answers. This is not a sign of a lack of reverence but rather, demonstrates trust in His Word and the belief that He has the power to fulfil it.
“Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.” (Genesis 24:1)
Those with the faith of Abraham find strength in every hardship and persevere until the end. They understand that the greatest victory will not be achieved here but in eternity.
