On Sunday morning, 9 February, London welcomed Bishop Edir Macedo for the Gathering of the Nations as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Universal Church in the United Kingdom. Amid daily reports of global conflicts, this special service brought together more than 3,000 people from 85 different nations under one roof at the Rainbow Theatre, all united in the spirit of faith.
Bishop Macedo began the service by reminding everyone of the promise written in Matthew 18:20: “…where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there…” He then called forward all those who were suffering, so that they would have the opportunity to have their life transformed through faith. “Maybe your life is devastated. You are lost, desperate, and no one cares about you. My Lord came for those who are lost, desperate, sick, and oppressed. If you are in this situation, come here to meet Jesus, so He can transform your life,” he invited.
It was explained that the Holy Spirit wants to live within each one of us, and that whoever believes and gives their life to Him would have their life transformed. Bishop then prayed and encouraged people to express their needs to God, as only they knew exactly what they needed. “Jesus is asking, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ When you talk to Him – Whom you don’t see, feel, or touch, but believe in His Word – you receive this transformation through your faith. You will focus your eyes on that Word, and speak to God.” He urged.
After the prayer, Bishop thanked God for what He had already done and assured everyone that, regardless of how they were feeling, if they believed in the Word, they had already been answered by God. He added, “You will see it from now on. Mark this day on your calendar. You will see what God will do in your life!”
The Lord’s Supper
Bishop Renato took over the service, announcing that in a few moments everyone would have the opportunity to participate in the Lord’s Supper. But before that he wanted to explain the meaning of this sacred ceremony.
“For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name…” (Isaiah 54:5).
“The word ‘husband’ in the Bible means one who cares. God wants to be your husband, but for that to happen, you need to be with Him as a wife is with her husband. You need to give your life to Him. This is the meaning of the Lord’s Supper,” explained Bishop Renato. “If the groom is at the Altar waiting for the bride but she doesn’t show up, there can be no marriage. What Jesus meant is, ‘If you also don’t give your life to Me, there can be no marriage between us.’ In other words, ‘I can’t take care of you, because you don’t trust Me with your life.”
Bishop Renato then invited the congregation to participate in the Lord’s Supper with an understanding of the proposal that God was making. “If you accept this proposal and give your life to Him, He will marry you and be responsible for your life from today.” During the seeking, Bishop Macedo prayed that the people present would receive peace, as a sign of God’s forgiveness.
Bishop Renato added: “Spiritually, you are no longer alone. God is with you. You can talk to Him at any time, wherever you are, when you face challenges, when you are bombarded by negative thoughts… Remember, ‘God, You are my Husband, my Creator. You promised to take care of me.’ You will never be alone again!”
Bishop also highlighted the unity of the 85 nations that were gathered together, saying; “There are 85 nations under this roof today, thank God, and there is no sound of war! Isn’t that amazing? Do you know why? Because He is our Lord. We may all be from different nations, speak different languages, have different cultures, but we are all citizens of the Kingdom of God.”
Bishop Macedo concluded the service by encouraging everyone to glorify God in spirit and in truth. “When we have the Spirit of God, we can worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. So do that now, friends. Praise and glorify Him!”
It was a morning to remember, full of power and renewal, where many lives were transformed and many people had a profound experience with the Holy Spirit.
