Two Kingdoms, Two Citizenships: Where Do You Belong?

Passport
If you live in the UK, then you know what it means to be a citizen: youโ€™ve got certain rights, benefits, and responsibilities, such as paying your taxes and following the laws. And itโ€™s not just Britain โ€” itโ€™s like that everywhere. No matter where youโ€™re from, being a citizen comes with its own set of entitlements and duties.

But when we look beyond the physical world and into the spiritual world, things are a bit different. There are only two types of citizenship there: you either belong to the kingdom of the world or the Kingdom of God.

Now, letโ€™s talk about the kingdom of the world first. It sells this idea of absolute freedom โ€” live how you want, do what feels good, answer to no one. Sounds appealing, doesnโ€™t it? But thereโ€™s a catch โ€” it comes at a cost. Sooner or later, the consequences of those โ€˜freeโ€™ choices come knocking. Then come disappointment and loneliness, along with the realisation that this world doesnโ€™t deliver the happy endings you were promised.

In contrast, the Kingdom of God works very differently. In Godโ€™s Kingdom, the rights and benefits are genuine and yes, there are obligations, but theyโ€™re not heavy burdens. It all starts with one simple thing: faith. Thatโ€™s the only โ€˜documentโ€™ you need to become a citizen of this Kingdom.

Through faith, you gain access to things the world canโ€™t give you โ€” miracles, wisdom beyond any degree and peace that doesnโ€™t fade when times get hard. You even have the privilege of having direct access to God at any time โ€” day or night.

However, faith isnโ€™t just saying, โ€œI believe.โ€ Itโ€™s something you live by. Think of the Bible as the constitution of the Kingdom of God โ€” it lays out the principles, values, and way of life expected from its citizens. The more you follow it, the stronger your faith becomes.

Most people donโ€™t like rules. We complain about simple ones like traffic laws, let alone anything that asks us to change or sacrifice. Thatโ€™s why, sadly, not everyone is part of Godโ€™s Kingdom. Many people want what this Kingdom offers: inner peace, a strong family, lasting joy, confidence about the future and even eternal life, but theyโ€™re not keen on the commitment it takes.

These benefits are only available in Godโ€™s Kingdom. The world we live in cannot offer them. Everything in the kingdom of the world comes at a price. Even peace is something you have to chase after. Worst of all, nothing lasts forever.
