Transform Your Life Through the Power of Repentance

Wednesday of the Power of Repentance
Repentance is essential for salvation. It is a divine power given by God, capable of resolving humanity’s deepest problem: sin. Repentance isn’t about feeling guilty, it is a vital step for anyone seeking salvation, and without it, no one can enter the Kingdom of God.

When most people hear the word “sin,” they think of serious crimes: murder, theft, adultery. But the Bible shows that sin goes much deeper than that. Romans 3:10 reminds us: “There is none righteous, no, not one.” In other words, everyone falls short of God’s perfect standard.

We often compare ourselves with others to feel better about our mistakes. But God doesn’t measure sin the way we do. Both the worst criminal and the person considered morally upright are in the same position—they are sinners and need repentance. God’s standard is perfect, and none of us can reach it on our own.

Interestingly, those considered “great sinners” sometimes find it easier to acknowledge their mistakes, while those who see themselves as morally correct can struggle the most to recognise their need for change.

God is perfectly just, but He also gave us freedom of choice. This is why we see evil and injustice in the world. Jesus said in John 16:8 that the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

God doesn’t follow human rules, which change over time. What was wrong decades ago may be accepted today, but God’s standard never changes. He respects the freedom He has given us. If He stopped every wrong choice, we would be like robots. Therefore, we need to take responsibility for our own actions.

Without this awareness, there is no genuine remorse. For that reason, each of us should ask: Am I truly producing the fruits of repentance, or am I just justifying my mistakes?
