“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” (1 Corinthians 10:12). You have probably read or heard this Bible verse before, but have you stopped to truly understand the seriousness and depth of this warning from the Apostle Paul? His advice to all Christians – both in his time and today – who wish to maintain their salvation is to remain vigilant at all times.
Have you ever walked on a slippery path, carefully watching your steps to avoid making any wrong move that could lead to a fall? This same caution should apply to our spiritual lives. Those who believe they are standing strong should not assume that they are less likely to fall. In fact, a small slip can jeopardise everything.
Some may think that only extreme actions or “serious sins” can lead a Christian to fall, but the reality is that a fall begins with small things. No one is exempt from the risk of falling into sin, especially those who allow themselves to make “harmless” mistakes – like telling “white lies”, gossiping about someone behind their back or even cursing others while driving. Although these actions may be considered small or insignificant, they can easily develop into harmful habits, and all actions have consequences – every sin separates us from God.
We cannot take our salvation for granted. As Christians, we must follow Apostle Paul’s advice, staying alert and constantly working on maintaining our communion with God so that He may give us the strength to endure and overcome any obstacles or temptations. Every Wednesday, we hold a service dedicated to helping you draw – and remain – closer to God. Currently, we are taking part in “The Warnings of the End” series.
Join us this first day of the year at your local Universal Church to start 2025 on the right path towards a deeper communion with the Most High. Even if at one point, you had a close connection with God but, along the way, you have lost it, whatever the reason may be, know that it’s not too late. A new year has just begun, and you still have the opportunity to return to Him!
