At the start of 2026, it was declared the “Year of Go” – a reminder of the biblical mission to take God’s Word to every person, everywhere.
Jesus Himself said: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This instruction is simple, yet powerful. The word “go” demands more than belief; it calls for action. It speaks of attitude, movement and willingness. The Church grows when each of us understands that we are not just believers, but disciples with a purpose.
In another well-known passage, Jesus tells us: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20). Here, Jesus makes it clear that His Church reaches the world through multiplication – disciples making disciples.
True Christianity has never been self-centred. The faith Jesus established is one that goes to the sick, the imprisoned and the lost. It is about meeting people where they are, not waiting for them to come to us.
This principle was lived out in the 1970s by Bishop Macedo, the founder of the Universal Church. He chose to step away from comfort and preach in a place most people avoided. The bandstand in Méier, Rio de Janeiro, was known as a gathering point for those most rejected by society. Yet it was there that the Universal Church was born – proof that God works powerfully when someone is willing to go.
The Year of Go is not only about crossing borders or travelling to different countries. Sometimes, it’s as simple as speaking to a neighbour, a colleague, or someone waiting at the bus stop. It’s about sharing what we ourselves have received from God. When we focus on the spiritual needs of others, God takes care of our own needs in return.
This mission is meant to be lived out daily. However, if you would like support in fulfilling it, you are welcome to join us for our Battalion Meeting, held every Saturday at 10am at a Universal Church near you.
