The Sunday of Exaltation

Sunday of
We often hear popular sayings that sounds as though they come straight from the Bible. One that’s often quoted is, “The humiliated will be exalted.” You may have heard it before or seen it shared on social media.

Yet, the actual verse says: “… and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)

At first glance, this may seem like a small difference, but it changes everything. The Bible doesn’t say that those who are humiliated by others will automatically be lifted up. Rather, it teaches that those who choose to humble themselves before God — who willingly surrender their pride, ego, and self-reliance will be exalted by Him.

True humility is not about thinking less of yourself; it’s about recognising your complete dependence on God. When we live this way, we open the door for His providence to work in our lives. That’s what it truly means to be exalted by God; to experience His favour because we have chosen to walk in faith and humility.

This Sunday, 19th October, you are invited to join us for the Sunday of Exaltation with the Lord’s Supper at your local Universal Church. It will be a moment to humble ourselves before God, to seek His presence, and to trust that, in His perfect time, He will lift us up.

Come and experience what it truly means to be exalted by God.
