The Power of Purification

Salt and Water
In the course of our daily routines, we engage in countless acts of purification—often without giving them a second thought. These actions hold far greater significance than we often realise.

From a practical perspective, simple habits like washing our hands are among the most effective means of preventing illness. When we use soap and water, it removes harmful bacteria and viruses, helping to protect ourselves and others from infection. This is important for our health and the wellbeing of those around us.

Similarly, regular bathing removes impurities from the body including dirt, sweat, and bacteria that cause unpleasant odour and skin conditions. It contributes not only to physical cleanliness, but also to a sense of renewal and dignity. It helps us to feel refreshed, comfortable, and prepared to face the day with confidence.

Physical purification isn’t limited to what we do on the outside. What we put into our bodies has an impact on our health and wellbeing too. Staying hydrated is vital—it supports the body’s natural detoxification systems, assisting with digestion, circulation, and even the appearance of the skin. Drinking enough water each day can be likened to an internal cleansing, helping to flush out waste and keep vital organs functioning efficiently.

Likewise, our diet plays a crucial role in supporting this natural purification. Foods that are rich in nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grain supply the body with the tools it needs to cleanse itself from within.

Beyond the physical, there lies the need for spiritual purification that is often overlooked. Just as our bodies need washing and detoxifying, our inner selves require renewal and restoration too. Emotional pain, feelings of guilt, unresolved anger, fear, and even trauma can weigh heavily on the soul. Spiritual purification is the process of releasing these burdens and seeking a closer connection with God.

The Bible offers several powerful examples that illustrate the spiritual importance of purification. For example, the prophet Elisha used salt to purify the waters of Jericho bringing life to what had been barren and unproductive (2 Kings 2:19–22).

This event reveals the significance of water and salt not only as physical elements, but also for divine transformation and renewal.

That’s why, over the course of the 7 Fridays of spiritual purification, we are inviting you to bring along a bottle of water every Friday. During the meeting, consecrated salt will be added to it symbolising the spiritual purification that can begin to take place in your life through faith.

It’s an opportunity to break free from whatever’s been holding you back, whether it’s emotional turmoil, spiritual oppression, family conflict or financial difficulties. Through faith, prayer, and the use of these sacred elements, you can begin a process of complete liberation.

This Friday, 27th June, marks the third week of this special Chain of Prayer. It’s not too late to take part. If there are things in your life that have caused you pain or suffering, this could be your moment to let them go once and for all.
