The state of Texas, in the United States, has taken a historic step by approving a law that requires the Ten Commandments to be displayed in all classrooms of public schools.
The new bill, sanctioned by Governor Greg Abbott, requires posters or framed copies of at least 16 inches by 20 inches, showing principles that, for many, represent the moral basis of society. In addition, the new rule is seen as a milestone in the defence of values that have shaped the history of the country.
Texas lawmakers also passed a bill allowing schools to give pupils and staff a voluntary daily period for prayer or religious reading. The defenders of this law celebrated the opportunity to, once again, remember the importance of values that transcend generations.
This is not the first time Texas has publicly defended this message. In 2005, the Supreme Court authorised the state to keep a monument with the Ten Commandments in its capital ground. Since then, the topic has remained alive in the public debate. Now, with the new law, this message will reach the eyes and hearts of millions of students daily, increasing it’s presence in education.
These changes reinforce the state government’s intention to promote a more focused, disciplined and respectful school environment.
For many families and religious leaders, this law represents more than a political decision: it is a rescue of lasting principles. Displaying the Ten Commandments gives children and young people a daily reminder that living with integrity, respect and faith remains the safest path to the future.
