On the evening of Thursday, 6 February, Bishop Renato Cardoso kicked off the special series of events celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Universal Church in the United Kingdom. Held at the Cathedral of Miracles in London, the “Night of the Disciples” was a powerful revival meeting.
Bishop Renato began the service by drawing a parallel between the church’s 30-year milestone and the age of Jesus Christ when He started His ministry. “He began His ministry when He was thirty years of age. This means we are only beginning here in the UK,” the Bishop remarked.
From water to wine
Continuing the connection to the beginning of Jesus’s ministry, where His first miracle was turning water into wine, the first prayer of the evening was especially dedicated to those seeking a similar miracle in their lives. “What does that mean for you? I don’t know. In the Bible, wine is associated with joy. Perhaps, just like at the wedding where they run out of wine, joy has gone out of your life or your marriage.
Maybe you have been feeling really down and low because of bad news that you have been receiving; because you’ve lost a loved one, a job or a dream, and nothing cheers you up. Your life is just like water, without colour, without taste, and empty. But the Lord Jesus can turn your life from water into wine. He can do it right now. He just needs you to do one thing. The water is your life, the Altar represents the Lord Jesus. He needs you to surrender your life to Him at the Altar,” said Bishop Renato inviting people to come forward for a powerful prayer.
Signs of the end
“You don’t have to believe in God to know that the world is going to end. Even scientists have been talking about it and fear that we are very close to the end. You probably heard of the Clock of the Final Judgment, which illustrates how close we are to the Apocalypse due to nuclear threats, wars, artificial intelligence, pandemics, and a lot of things that are happening in the world today – including things that we don’t even know about; that don’t make the news”, Bishop Renato explained.
The main message of the meeting was based on 2 Timothy 3:1-5, where the Apostle Paul lists behaviours that would be common in the end times: “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
Bishop Renato elaborated on the behaviours listed, pointing out how the rise of selfies in today’s generation reflects a growing trend of self-love. He noted that children’s aspirations have also shifted, often emphasising the desire for wealth. In the past, most children dreamed of becoming police officers, firefighters or other roles focused on serving others and saving lives. However, when asked about their dreams today, many children express a desire to be singers, influencers, or athletes, which are typically more lucrative careers.
He also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant to avoid being ungrateful to God, recalling how many individuals who had their lives transformed by the Most High have turned their backs on Him due to minor issues faced within the church.
Consecration of Assistants with over 20 years of service in the Work of God
One of the highlights of the evening was the consecration of several Assistants who have dedicated over 20 years to the service of God. Bishops Júlio Freitas and James Marques anointed the Assistants, while Bishop Renato blessed them. He explained that this consecration serves as a reminder of the perseverance of these dedicated Assistants. Their commitment stands as a testimony to everyone, encouraging others to aspire to follow the same path and remain faithful until the end.
