International Volunteer Day

Volunteer Day

Did you know that every year on the 5 December, is the International Volunteer Day? It is a unique event with the aim of promoting voluntary work and encouraging everyone to partake in social action.

The United Nations defines the volunteer as “the young person or adult who, due to his personal interest and his civic spirit, dedicates part of his time, without any remuneration, to various forms of activities, organised or not, of social well-being or other fields”.

Driven by the love for their neighbour, the Universal Church hosts various social actions across the globe and impacts all types of people: women, men, children, youths, seniors, the homeless, inmates, patients in hospital. The list is large and continues to grow.

The Universal Church is present in more than 130 countries and in each of them are also the social projects carried out by the volunteers.

In our local branches across the UK, you can expect to find initiatives such as a weekly Food Bank or Soup Kitchen, Night Angels (an initiative to support those sleeping rough) and the Give Warmth Appeal, a project that takes place every year to provide toys to children in hospital.

You can also find the Victory Youth Group (a youth network offering spiritual support to young people), the Caleb group (tailored to seniors), the Patient Care Group (visiting patients and spiritually supporting their loved ones) and the Rescue of Dignity Group (spiritual support offered to inmates and their families).

If you or someone you know could benefit from any of these community groups or projects you can visit your nearest Universal Church and ask to speak with your Pastor. Alternatively, you can contact us via our 24-Hour Helpline on 020 7686 6000 or message us on WhatsApp on 020 7686 6010.

If you would like to learn more about how you can join a group and become part of this work of giving back to those in need, your Pastor at your nearest branch will be able to guide you. There is always something happening at the Universal Church in order to help others!
