A free community health event in West London has delivered vital early health interventions, with 28 people referred for further medical support following on-the-spot checks.

The Health Point initiative, run by the Patient Care Group (PCG) – volunteers from the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) – returned to Acton this weekend, offering free health screenings in a busy public setting.

Across the day, volunteer healthcare professionals carried out:

  • blood pressure checks
  • blood glucose tests
  • blood oxygen (saturation) tests
  • heart rate checks

PCG Health Check3The event, hosted at The Oaks Shopping Centre, reached more than 200 people, many of whom may not regularly access GP services, highlighting the continued need for accessible, community-led health support.

105 blood pressure checks were carried out, 82 blood glucose tests and 35 blood oxygen sats, resulting in 28 people being referred to a doctor for further treatment.

Bishop Allan Passos of UCKG said: “Every event like this proves how important it is to take healthcare directly into the community. Behind every number is a person who may not have realised there was an issue.

“This is about early intervention, prevention, and making sure no one slips through the cracks. Even a simple check can make a life-changing difference.”

Deep, a volunteer from the Patient Care Group, said: “We came out today to help people realise that they need to check their blood pressure and that it’s important to have this done. We also want them to know that we’re here to help, and that if they need any support, they can see their GP – especially if their blood pressure readings are high or low.”

PCG Health Check2Members of the public also praised the initiative. One attendee said, John: “I think this is a great idea because people don’t often go to their GP, particularly if they are working. I don’t, because I’m working during the week, and it’s really good to do something preventative rather than just going to the GP every time there is a problem. It helps you keep on top of things and try to change a few things here and there, thinking about lifestyle and diet choices.”

The Health Point initiative runs regularly across London and other UK cities, forming part of UCKG’s wider community outreach programme focused on improving public health access and supporting preventative care.

The event reflects growing public support for community-led initiatives, with 60% of UK adults believing faith-based organisations have a role to play in tackling key societal challenges, including health and wellbeing.
