Have You Written Your “Own bible”?

My Truth 1
This month, the Godllywood Self-Help meeting taught women about the many lies we often gather about ourselves and reminded us that the only truth we can truly rely on is found in the Word of God.

Today, most of us can easily access the Holy Bible, whether in printed form or through a mobile application. Though it may appear in different languages, there is only one Holy Bible. It reveals the story of humanity, from the beginning of creation to God’s promise of a new Jerusalem.

But have you ever stopped to think that you might be following a different kind of bible?

Without realising it, we all collect ideas and beliefs from our own experiences, from what others have told us, and from what we have seen or gone through. Over time, these shape the way we think, feel, and respond — almost like a personal “bible” that we have written ourselves.

This personal “bible” is made up of the voices you have heard: what you’ve been told about love, friendship, family, success, and even faith. The problem is, not all of it is true. Sometimes, a single comment or painful moment becomes a “verse” that stays in your heart and quietly influences your choices.

Even women who know the Word of God can still fall into this trap. Wrong beliefs can creep in and begin rewriting parts of our story without us even noticing.

Only TruthIt’s worth asking yourself: What beliefs am I living by that might not be true? What have I accepted as “fact” that God never said about me?

It’s important to note that we do not have the authority to write a bible. God’s Word is complete, perfect, and true. When we rely on our own version of truth, life often takes a wrong turn and the longer those false beliefs stay in place, the more pain they cause.

Whenever God shows us a belief that doesn’t line up with His Word, we need to erase it immediately. If we allow it to stay written in our hearts, we will end up following it and that always leads to disappointment.

To erase your “personal bible” means letting go of your own ideas and allowing God’s truth to take its place.

However, it’s not just about owning a Bible; it’s about living by it and growing in the wisdom it offers (Proverbs 4:7–13). It takes effort, but it’s the only way to live in true freedom. God’s Word neverSelf Help meeting Oct 1 lies; it’s the only truth we can completely trust.

So, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: Am I following my own bible or the Word of God?

The Godllywood Self-Help meetings are exclusively for women and take place every two months. If you missed it this time, we would love to see you at the next one.
