Gethsemane: The Garden That Reveals Who We Are

Gethsemane

The Garden of Gethsemane, in Jerusalem, is one of the most striking and meaningful locations mentioned in the Bible. Despite wars, invasions, and centuries of change, it remains preserved to this day. Its name carries a powerful and literal meaning: “oil press”. That was the place where olives were brought to be crushed for the extraction of pure oil.

It was also the very place where Jesus chose to spend His final moments of freedom – and, as with everything He did, this was no coincidence. Just as olives must be pressed to release their most precious essence, Jesus Himself was about to face overwhelming pressure. Pressure is the ultimate test of faith, and He had to go through Gethsemane to produce the “oil” that fills us today: the Holy Spirit.

Many places hold deep significance in our own lives – whether because of childhood memories, impactful events, losses, victories, important decisions, or moments of significant change. Even if you’ve never visited Gethsemane in person, this sacred place can still reveal something profound about you.
