Fasting + Prayer: Spiritual Battles Require Spiritual Weapons

Saturday

The act of fasting with a spiritual purpose is deeply powerful, as highlighted by the Lord Jesus when He observed that His disciples were unable to set free a young man suffering from spiritual issues. He said, “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21).

The disciples were confronted with a problem that seemed insurmountable. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t help the boy. Similarly, we all encounter situations in life that appear impossible to resolve. Such challenges can drain our strength, rob us of peace, and undermine our hope. However, Jesus highlighted that fasting, when combined with prayer, becomes a powerful and effective spiritual weapon in these moments.

Fasting is more than abstaining from food; it’s an act of humility, surrender, and dependence on God. It’s a way of silencing the flesh to strengthen the spirit. When coupled with prayer, fasting demonstrates a deliberate and determined faith. We show God that our spiritual need is greater than our physical desire, and that we are prepared to prioritise His presence and power in our lives.

In the same way, uniting our faith with others is also presented as a powerful tool. Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20). There is strength in unity. When people come together with one purpose and one spirit, seeking God, His presence is manifested in a special way.

By combining these two spiritual weapons—fasting and united prayer—we can confront even the most persistent challenges with faith. What seems humanly impossible becomes possible through a focused and united belief.

For this reason, we invite you to join us for The Fight to Combat Casts of Demons with Fasting and Prayer on Saturday, 14 February at 7am. This meeting presents a unique opportunity to join your faith with others and use these two powerful weapons against any negative forces aiming to bring destruction or stagnation into your life.

Join us at your nearest Universal Church and, if possible, start a fast before the service. Let’s strengthen our faith, seek God wholeheartedly, and fight back with the spiritual tools that the Lord Jesus Himself taught us to use.
