Fast of Daniel, Day 8 – The Importance of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s Life

Holy Spirit

Many people try to follow God with good intentions and human effort alone, but soon become discouraged, inconsistent or spiritually dry. Why does this happen? Because without the Holy Spirit, living a Christian life as God intended is impossible.

Jesus made this clear when He told His disciples, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” (Acts 1:8). He didn’t send them out to preach or establish the Church until they had received the Holy Spirit. This alone shows us how essential He is – not optional, but indispensable.

The Holy Spirit is not a feeling, energy or symbol. He is the Spirit of the Living God – the presence of God living inside those who fully surrender to Him. He teaches, comforts, corrects, strengthens and guides, transforming us from the inside out.

When the Holy Spirit dwells within someone, they receive the power to overcome sin and temptation, remain faithful in difficult times, make wise decisions and serve God effectively. Without Him, we may know about God, but we will struggle to truly know Him personally.

Many people believe in God, attend church and strive to do what is right, yet still feel weak, unstable or distant from Him. That’s because, as Bishop Edir Macedo explains in his book, “The Holy Spirit”, “The abundant life the Lord Jesus promised is only possible when the Holy Spirit is free to act in a person’s life. This is the purpose of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit for every human being, without exception!

The Fast of Daniel provides a special opportunity to seek this glorious promise with all your strength. It’s not about emotion or pressure; it’s about surrender. God doesn’t look at our status or background; He looks at our thirst.

There is no greater gift than being filled with the Spirit of God. He is our guarantee of eternal life and our strength for the journey on earth. If you truly want to be a strong, stable and victorious Christian, don’t just ask for blessings – seek to be filled with the Spirit of the Most High. If you already have His presence, use this time to renew your communion with Him so that He can use you more for His glory.
