We all understand that relationships don’t grow overnight. Whether it’s a friendship, a marriage or even a working relationship, building trust, understanding and connection takes time and effort. The same is true – even more so – when it comes to our relationship with God.
Many people claim to believe in God, but few can truly say they know Him. That’s because knowing someone requires more than just hearing about them. It demands time, communication and intentional effort. You wouldn’t expect to have a strong relationship with someone you barely speak to or make time for, would you? In the same way, if we want to walk closely with God, we must commit ourselves to understanding who He is.
The Fast of Daniel offers a precious opportunity to pursue this goal. By disconnecting from the distractions of the world and focusing our thoughts on God, we create the space needed to build a daily, personal and life-transforming relationship with Him.
Knowing God means understanding His character and will, and the Bible is where He reveals Himself. Every page teaches us about His mercy, holiness, justice and love. As you read with an open heart, you’ll begin to see how He thinks and how He works in the lives of those who trust Him.
Furthermore, when we speak to God sincerely and frequently, we draw near to Him and He draws near to us (see James 4:8). The more we pray, the more we recognise His voice and learn to align our desires with His.
It’s important to remember that a relationship with God isn’t built on feelings but on faith and obedience. As we learn His will, we must also be willing to follow it – even when it’s not easy. After all, true love expresses itself through action.
If you’ve ever felt distant from God or unsure of who He really is, these 21 days are the perfect time to change that. Use this period to cultivate a relationship that isn’t based on religious habit but rather on genuine connection. The more you know God, the more you’ll trust Him. The more you trust Him, the more peace and clarity you’ll experience, regardless of the circumstances.
