Faith in the Midst of War

Apt in Kiev Ukraine
Since the conflict began in Ukraine in 2022, life has been filled with uncertainty and fear. Yet, through all the bombings and chaos, the Universal Church has stood as a testament of faith and courage. Pastors, Assistants, and members have remained committed to their mission of bringing spiritual hope to the local communities. While many might feel overwhelmed by the circumstances, their faith in God continues to be a source of strength.

Recently, Bishop Tiago Casagrande, who oversees the evangelistic work in Kiev, shared a remarkable story with Bishop Edir Macedo, the founder of the Universal Church, that highlights God’s protection over His people. It’s a story that truly shows how faith can act as a shield, when you trust in God.

Bishop Tiago shared that there had been a massive attack in Kiev, which lasted from 1am until dawn. A drone struck the building where an Assistant of the Universal Church lived with her husband and children – all members of the church. Thankfully, nothing happened to them and even their flat on the third floor remained intact. He recalls that during almost four years of war, God has protected them, and to his knowledge, there has not been a single case of a member losing their life as a result of the war in Ukraine.

This reinforces what members of the Universal Church in Ukraine have experienced daily throughout the conflict: God’s power preserving the lives of those under His protection. Even as sirens echo through the night and the streets lie in ruins, their faith keeps them standing.

Moments like this serve as a reminder that where there is faith, God is always present. In the midst of war and uncertainty, the Universal Church continues to be a beacon of hope for hundreds of Ukrainians who find true shelter in His Word. Even among explosions, they continue to declare: “The Lord is our refuge and fortress, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

Alongside spiritual support, the Universal Church is currently collecting 22 tons of humanitarian aid – including pasta, sugar, and tinned food to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. If you would like to contribute, donations can be dropped off at any local Universal Church by 2nd November.
