Faith in Action: Living the Word of God

The Word of God
Faith is more than hearing, reading, or memorising verses—it’s revealed in practice. This is how the Word of God truly transforms lives.

In a world full with voices, opinions, and distractions, one thing remains constant: the Word of God. It’s not just a sacred text, it is a daily invitation to transformation and this invitation is not limited to knowledge or reading, but to experience.

Those who attend Wednesday meetings at the Universal Church know this well. These gatherings are not just about reading letters on a page—they’re about understanding what God is saying and putting it into practice in everyday life.

It’s possible to know countless verses, attend meetings, or talk about faith—and yet not live according to what the Word teaches. Jesus Himself asked: “…Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)

Faith isn’t about choosing between knowing and doing. In fact, it’s knowledge of God’s Word that inspires obedience. But when knowledge becomes the goal, it loses its purpose—just as it did for the religious people of Jesus’ time, who knew much but failed to recognise Him.

At the School of Faith meetings, people discover that faith is not theory or a feeling. It’s a practical, rational decision. For example, they learn that forgiveness isn’t just a nice idea—it’s a daily choice. Loving God isn’t only about singing praises; it’s about living with integrity, humility, and surrender.

As Bishop Edir Macedo reminds us: “Intelligent faith is not a theoretical faith. It is a faith that thinks, but also acts.”

Those who put God’s Word into action notice changes that go far beyond the surface. It transforms thoughts, reactions, and relationships—not because we memorised verses, but because we chose to live them.

As John 13:17 says: “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” This is the kind of faith that has guided millions around the world—faith that doesn’t rely on eloquent words, but on simple, sincere actions inspired by Scripture.

Jesus compared those who practise the Word to those who build their house on the rock—firm, unshakable, and prepared for any storm (Matthew 7:24-25). That’s the goal: faith with a foundation, not just a façade.

The book of James teaches: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only…” (James 1:22) The Word wasn’t given merely to be studied, it was given to be lived. When that happens, faith stops being theory and starts being transformation.
