Do You Know What Your Connection to Easter Is?

Easter is often seen as a time for chocolate eggs, family gatherings and a well-deserved break. But beyond the traditions lies a much deeper meaning.

The story of Easter traces back more than 3,000 years, to a moment when God freed the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. This event became known as Pesach, meaning “passage.”

It refers to the night described in Exodus 12, when the Israelites marked their doorposts with the blood of a lamb and were spared from judgment. Through this act of faith, they experienced protection and deliverance.

This moment was significant not only because they escaped hardship, but because it symbolised a turning point. It was about moving from captivity into freedom, from fear into hope, and from the past into a new future.

Centuries later, Jesus came into the world with a clear purpose. He became the “perfect Lamb” offering Himself as a sacrifice to take away the sins of humanity.

He faced rejection, suffering and crucifixion, but He did not turn away. And through His resurrection, everything changed. It was the ultimate symbol of victory: life over death, hope over despair, and the promise of a new beginning for all who believe.

So, what does it mean for each of us today?

Regardless of your background or beliefs, the message of Easter remains simple and powerful:

  • There is hope, even in difficult moments
  • There is forgiveness, no matter the past
  • There is a chance to start again

It is a reminder that the power that raised the Lord Jesus did not remain confined to the past. It is still very much alive and at work today. Even now, it has the ability to transform lives, and bring restoration to anyone who feels like there’s no way forward.

This year, Easter Sunday falls on 5th April, and you are invited to experience the true meaning of the resurrection at a Universal Church near you. While it marks the end of Holy Week, it could be the beginning of something new — a fresh start, a new direction and a renewed sense of hope. Do you believe?
