Life has a way of bringing us face-to-face with situations that leave us feeling helpless. In Luke 7:11-15, we read of a widow in the city of Nain, who walked behind the coffin of her only son, surrounded by a crowd of mourners. Her future must have looked dark—no husband, no child, no hope.
At the very same moment, Jesus was approaching the city with His disciples and a crowd rejoicing with joy over His presence and the miracles they had seen. It was as though life and death were about to meet at the city gate.
When Jesus saw the widow, He was deeply moved. He said to her, “Do not weep.” Imagine how impossible that must have sounded. But Jesus never speaks without purpose. He stepped forward, touched the coffin, something others would have avoided and spoke words of life: “Young man, I say to you, arise.” To the astonishment of all, the boy sat up and began to speak, and Jesus returned him to his mother.
What does this tell us? That God is not indifferent to our pain. He draws near when we are distressed, and He has the power to change what seems unchangeable. Just as joy was restored to that widow, He wants to restore joy to you too.
Maybe right now you feel weighed down by struggles that take a toll on your well-being. Perhaps you’ve cried so much that your tears have run dry.
God cares for you just as much as He cared for that grieving widow. His desire is to lift you out of distress and fill you with peace.
But there’s something you must do: you need to let Him in. Just as the widow allowed Jesus to step into her moment of despair, you too can invite Him into your situation.
Why not take that step today? Join us for our Health Day service this Tuesday as we continue the Chain of Prayer: ‘The Powerful Entry of Jesus.’ When the Lord enters your life, nothing can remain the same.
