Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “Maybe I was just meant to suffer?” It’s a thought many people carry silently. Sorrow can be so heavy that it strips life of its meaning.
For some, sorrow comes after a broken marriage or family conflicts that never seem to end. For others, it may be an illness, financial struggles, or an inner emptiness that no amount of comfort seems to fill. Sometimes, it isn’t about losing anything at all – you might still have your family, your health, or your home – yet joy seems to have drained away.
The Bible tells us of a time when David, hunted by King Saul, took refuge in a cave. His family came to him, and so did others – men who were distressed, in debt and deeply discontented (1 Samuel 22:1-2). But something extraordinary happened. When they realised God was with David, they too chose to trust, to take a step of faith and join him. In doing so, their lives were transformed. The sorrow that once defined them came to an end.
That’s the lesson we can take: sorrow may feel powerful, but faith is stronger. The same faith that gave those men a new beginning can do the very same for you.
On Friday 29th August, every Universal Church across the UK will hold ‘The Day of the End of Sorrow,’ as part of the Chain of Prayer: 13 Fridays to Tie Up Evil.
Have you been asking yourself, “Can the cycle of sadness be broken?” The answer is yes, absolutely. Life doesn’t have to remain a rollercoaster of brief joy followed by long stretches of pain.
No matter where your sorrow lies – whether in your family, your finances or deep within your soul – faith has the power to bring about transformation.
This Friday, you’re warmly invited to take a step of faith and say: “This is the end of my sorrow.”
