Bring Flavour Back to Your Love Life

Happy Couple
Last Thursday, from the Cathedral of Miracles, Bishop James Marques and his wife Helena Marques kicked off a special four-week purpose: “Combating the Love Life Without Flavour.”

The message encouraged all present to reflect on the importance of balance in relationships using something as simple and familiar as salt.

In the Bible, salt can represent both sterility and death, as well as life. A comparison was made between the Dead Sea, where excess salt prevents life, mirroring relationships that lose their flavour when priorities get out of balance.

However, just as salt enhances food when used in the right measure, couples should bring flavour to each other through presence, care, and partnership on a daily basis.

Bishop James reflected on Genesis 19, recalling Lot and his wife in Sodom and Gomorrah. They were consumed by greed and attachment to material wealth. Despite God’s warning, Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.

Many people today lose their families because they put possessions, career, and children above marriage and God. Bishop emphasised: God comes first, followed by your spouse. No one wants to feel like Plan B in someone’s life. For example, if work pressures are affecting your marriage but your family depends on your job, take it to God for direction.

Lot’s wife also symbolises those who cannot let go of the past—whether through resentment, bad memories, or past relationships. No one can go forward whilst looking back. A love life tied to the past cannot flourish in the present.

The message left two key takeaways:

  • Balance is everything. Just like the sea, which is salty but full of life, relationships thrive when there’s the right mix of closeness and space. Too much focus on work, children, or other priorities can ruin the flavour—just like the Dead Sea, where life cannot survive because of excess salt.

  • Don’t look back. Let go of past mistakes or old relationships. Singles who dwell on ex-partners or married couples who bring up past grievances risk spoiling what they have now or in the future.

If your relationship has lost its flavour or needs to regain balance, discover how to love intelligently at the Love Therapy seminars every Thursday at 8pm.
