It might surprise you, but many people still don’t fully understand what regret is. Some believe that simply being baptised in water will please God and tick the box of “doing His will.” But here’s the truth — it doesn’t work like that.
If baptism isn’t followed by genuine repentance, it holds no value. Sadly, many have stepped into the water not because they truly wanted to change, but because they felt it was the “right” thing to do.
That’s not repentance — that’s remorse. Remorse comes from feelings of guilt or shame, but it doesn’t always lead to change. Repentance is different. It’s a conscious decision to turn your life around, to change your thoughts and actions so they align with God’s will.
Some people have even been baptised several times, yet never once truly repented. They carried guilt into the water but left with the same heart, never confessing their wrongdoings to Jesus or realising they were spiritually lost. Then they wonder why they haven’t received the Holy Spirit. The answer is simple — the path wasn’t prepared for Him.
Baptism in water is just as important as baptism with the Holy Spirit. When the first is genuine, God Himself confirms it by filling you with His Spirit.
If you’re ready to take that step, speak to a pastor at your local Universal Church this week.
