AI Bible Apps Want to Take God’s Place

News 2
Mobile app stores are now seeing products offering AI-powered conversations about the Bible and Christian content. At first glance, it sounds helpful, doesn’t it? But have you stopped to consider how this could affect our faith?

Some developers have trained AI to advise people on the Bible. Now, let’s think about it for a moment — can a machine really guide us spiritually? Yet millions are turning to it. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has pointed out how many people trust AI without question. One popular AI Bible app already has over 25 million users. That’s a staggering number of people potentially turning to a machine instead of God.

But there’s another concern: what guarantee is there that AI won’t alter biblical verses when providing so-called spiritual “counselling”? Or what guarantee is there that AI won’t serve the interests of organisations guiding people away from the true faith? With AI, there is no accountability and that is a serious problem.

Some apps have even taken it a step further. They greet users with phrases like, “Greetings, my son.” In some cases, it’s all done in the disguise of a Christian app. Isn’t it at least strange that the AI identifies itself as “God”?

Ultimately, the real problem is that AI can subtly replace God in our lives. Time that could be spent deepening your relationship with Him is instead consumed by interacting with a machine. While it may seem harmless, it’s possible that this convenience opens the door to spiritual distractions that lead us away from God.

It’s easy to see why these apps are so appealing. They make spiritual life feel “practical” and effortless: no thinking, no reflection, no meditating on the scripture—just instant answers. But true faith is built through effort, reflection, and a personal connection with God—not through a machine handing you ready-made responses.

Don’t outsource your relationship with God. Your spiritual life depends entirely on your own commitment and effort. Stay vigilant against subtle influences that may drift you away from true faith.

Rather than consulting AI apps for guidance, join us this Wednesday, 12th November, for our Bible Study series, “How to Become the Blessing Itself.” While it is one thing to seek blessings, it is far greater to be the blessing. This was the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis 12:2: “…You shall be a blessing” — a promise that still extends to us today. During this meeting, we will reflect on what took place in the Garden of Gethsemane and learn how that moment can transform your life, so that you, too, may become a blessing.

Event: How to Become the Blessing Itself
Day and time: Wednesday, 12th November at 7:30pm (also at 7am, 10am and 3pm)
Location: Your local Universal Church
