Every morning, Bishop Edir Macedo, the founder of the Universal Church takes time to share a message of faith – a simple yet powerful Word that uplifts, encourages, and helps people face life’s challenges with hope.
His daily meditations, are broadcast live on Instagram via his official profile (@bispomacedo) and also shared through radio, YouTube, Telegram and other digital platforms. Whether you are at home, in hospital, in prison or on the way to work, countless people tune in to hear a word that brings clarity and strength to their day.
For Bishop Macedo, this isn’t a new mission. Long before the era of live streaming, he was waking up early to record words of encouragement that would play across radio stations. Many listeners may recall the ‘Word Friend’ programme on Rede Aleluia, with its memorable opening line – ‘a promise of peace, joy and love’ at a time when the world so often felt consumed by violence, hatred and despair.
The story of Word Friend is, in many ways, the story of the Universal Church itself. Back in the late 1970s, in the Méier neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, a young Pastor Macedo stood with nothing more than a microphone and a speaker in a public square. His audience was small, but the message was powerful and it touched many lives. Then, on 9 July 1977, in a modest space that had once been a funeral parlour, the Universal Church was established. From those humble beginnings, it rapidly grew, attracting even larger crowds, with countless testimonies of faith spreading far beyond the four walls of a church building.
Today, Bishop Macedo’s daily messages is available on Instagram, Facebook,  YouTube, and Univer Video reaching millions of people around the world, streaming personal reflections, testimonies of transformed lives and guidance for those grappling with everyday struggles.
Whether you listen live or catch up later, the focus remains the same: to bring faith, hope and clarity to anyone who needs it.
After all, it’s not just about listening to a message – it’s about starting each day with a Word that makes all the difference.
