Recent studies conducted in the UK identified significant challenges currently affecting men’s lives. Here are the five key problems highlighted:
1) Mental health and silence. Many men suffer from feelings of hopelessness, depression, addiction, and other mental health conditions. Yet, they rarely open up about these struggles. UK data indicates that approximately 15% of men experience a common mental health condition, and men are three times more likely than women to die by suicide.
2) Economic pressure and job insecurity. There is still a prevailing expectation that a man’s worth is directly tied to his financial situation or job status. This pressure can lead to significant distress.
3) Family and father-figure absence. Many men grow up without a positive father figure and, as a result, struggle to navigate their own family responsibilities. In fact, UK data shows that about 1 in 5 children live without a father figure at home.
4) Pornography and loneliness. This hidden addiction is linked to serious consequences, including the breakdown of marriages and sexual dysfunction. Global trends indicate that pornography consumption is closely associated with feelings of isolation among men.
5) Violence and crime. Young men are disproportionately recruited into criminal behaviour, often perceiving it as a means of gaining respect or ensuring survival within their environments.
To address these and other challenges, the Universal Church hosts a Men’s Meeting every two months as part of the IntelliMen Project – a global initiative aimed at building men of faith, discipline, and purpose.
We invite you to be our special guest at the next meeting, which will take place on Sunday, 2 November, at 4pm at the Cathedral of Miracles – 232 Seven Sisters Road, London, N4 3NX (with live transmission for those outside London).
2 Men, 1 Purpose
In the Bible, we observe a clear pattern: great missions are not meant to be undertaken alone. From Moses and Joshua (Deuteronomy 31:7-8) to the disciples (Luke 10:1) and Paul and Silas (Acts 16:25-26), teamwork and mutual encouragement have been essential throughout history.
That’s why the subject of the upcoming meeting is “2 Men, 1 Purpose”, emphasising the importance of unity and strength. We encourage you to bring someone along to benefit from the uplifting messages that will be shared – be it your father, brother, relative, or a friend. We look forward to seeing you there!
